How to use our Diamond Needle File Sets

Our diamond needle files can be used either wet or dry, they will last longer when used wet but it is understood that this isn’t always practical when working on a delicate watch or clock part. As with all our products allow the tool to do the work and don’t apply too much pressure especially if working on a corner or sharp edge.

Fitting clock and watch glasses – ease it by running a diamond file gently round the edge. Drilling holes in barometer glass to fit centre hand – I sometimes ease the hole using a round diamond file. Repivotting in a clock – I use a diamond file to rough up a piece of blued steel prior to fitting in the hole. When turning blued steel you can form a glazed surface which is not easy to cut through with a graver. I cut through it with a diamond file.”
