Carbide Spade Drills
HINT: Hold these spade drills with a pin-vice
Description
If you want to drill the perfect pivot without the risk of breaking the drill in the hole and then spending hours trying to remove it, then our carbide spade drills are for you. They are manufactured to exacting standards to ensure that the hole you drill is precise and the relief angle ensures that the debris is removed out of the hole as you drill.
Tungsten carbide spade drills means that they are harder than regular drills so you can drill through harder materials without the need for constant sharpening.
You can see a demo of our small carbide spade drills being used here.
How to use our Carbide Spade Drills
Most horologists find the easiest way to use them is by first finding the centre with a graver and then holding a spade drill in a pin-vise and then taking them to the work. Use very light pressure whilst taking the drill in and out periodically. No lubrication is necessary although a small dab of oil can help.

What our customers say…
"They offer an accurate way of drilling arbors for re-pivoting that no other drill can. Even the hardest French arbors can be reliably drilled for re-pivoting and these are the hardest arbors normally met with. Carbide spade drills are tougher because of their design, less likely to flex because they are short and the drilling surface is solid across the full width. Easy to sharpen, reliable, top performers and unbeatable value for money." Steve Taylor
